The Indian Bride
Whilst this double portrait was commissioned as a wedding gift, the commitments of Heman and Kinnary Joshi to their professions in medicine delayed sittings at Marley Hall. But here they are, tightly bonded, looking outward to their future. Unashamedly inspired by Rembrandt’s “The Jewish Bride”, this portrait is full of symbolism of a couple united by love, family and profession. As Heman and Kinnary posed with clasped hands, Heman automatically placed his other hand protectively around Kinnary’s shoulder, whilst her free hand went naturally to their unborn child.
Completed 2009. Private collection.
