Fire Dog

The artist’s dog Hogey (Hogarth) spent his later years at Marley Hall with his mistress Brenda in the study. Always close to the fire, close to a stroking hand, ready for kisses and cuddles. His portrait shows the intimate relationship between dog and mistress, and Hogey’s characteristic expression when his master entered the scene to sketch, “Watch it dad, I’m with my mum!”
